By Rachel Jenkins

Because we live in such a fast paced world, sometimes it’s necessary for us to take what other people at face value since we don’t have time to check into everything ourselves.

However, be careful: there are many diet and weight loss tips out there that actually aren’t accurate at all.

Diet And Weight Loss Tip 1: Fats should be completely cut out is a myth.

This is not accurate. Actually, some fats will even help you lose weight. Surprising, huh?

Don’t get it wrong – too much fat will absolutely lead to more disease, but a bit of fat in one’s diet does keep them more healthy. Fats allow the body to take in vital nutrients and to feel fuller for longer periods of time, which allows you to end up eating less.

Some foods that are high in fat but are actually good for you (and can help with your diet and weight loss tips) are nuts, fish, and olive oil.

Diet And Weight Loss Tip 2: Cut out as many calories as you can! Skip meals to your heart’s content. LIE.

Two words for you: Starvation mode.

When you eat low calorie all the time, your body can go into starvation mode. Before you skim this over, thinking it couldn’t happen to you: the calorie level for starvation mode is much less than you would think.

And when your body goes into starvation mode, your metabolism slows down. Once this happens, it’s hard for you to lose any more weight. At best, your weight loss efforts will stagnate.

With this in mind, it’s not shocking that meal skippers tend to weigh more than people who eat their meals on a frequent basis.

Rachel has lost 100 pounds herself, and is passionate about helping other people do it too. She has been featured in Woman’s World, among others.

The “5 Common Myths That Are Preventing You From Losing Weight”

You’ve probably either heard of them or actually bought into them yourself.
These terribly counter-productive myths are:

MYTH #1 – Low Calorie Diets Work
The Truth: You can’t lose weight by starving yourself because your metabolism will detect that you are starving and adjust itself by burning fewer calories. Prolonged low calorie diets will cause your body to hold on to fat energy for survival instead of burning off the fat. Needless to say, this really kills your metabolic rate.
Plus, if you eat less calories, you will end up battling hunger throughout the day. You may be able to keep it up for a week or two, but soon you will lose control and binge, setting you back to square one.

MYTH #2 – Low Fat Diets Work
The Truth: Studies show that people buying expensive “low fat” foods end up eating much more of that food because they believe it’s low fat. But in reality, you will gain more weight because you lose control. Many people think “It’s low fat, I can have a couple more!”

Low fat diets are also not recommended because there are some fats that you actually need to eat and are essential for healthy weight loss.

MYTH #3 – Low Carb Diets Work
The Truth: Low carb diets make you feel miserable because your body needs a certain amount of carbs for energy. You end up feeling drained and unable to sustain your normal activity level. Plus, low carb diets are not balanced and are therefore unhealthy long term.

MYTH #4 – Expensive Popular Diet Programs Work
The Truth: Studies show that even programs like Weight Watchers™ have a 97% recidivism rate. That means that once their members lose weight, they revert back to their old habits again and ultimately regain the weight. The classic yo-yo diet.

You have to pay to be involved and the process is extremely slow. Many people only see a 2-3 pound weight loss per month! That rate will zap your enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment and lead to gaining the weight back faster than you lost it.

MYTH #5 – You Should Stick With The Same Exercise Routine Each Month
The Truth: If you do the same exercise routine each month (such as walking to work), eventually your body will adjust and your results will gradually diminish. Many people refer to this as a plateau or “hitting the wall.” To keep getting fantastic results, you need to alternate your routine after a certain period of time.

Now That You Know What Doesn’t Work,
Let Us Show You What Does…

The Truth About Diets – Revealed!
Have you ever wondered how some “lucky” people can eat just about anything and never put on any weight? Wouldn’t you like to be able to do that yourself?

The key to losing weight in not eating foods you don’t like, spending countless hours in the gym or starving yourself. That simply leaves you miserable.

The secret to losing weight is to increase your metabolism in an effective way that will allow you to continue losing weight even while you rest!

Your BMR, or basal metabolic rate (metabolism), is the energy (measured in calories) expended by the body at rest to maintain normal bodily functions. This continual work by the body makes up about 60-70% of the calories we use (“burn” or expend) throughout the day. By strategically speeding up your BMR, you will burn about 2/3 more calories than you would with today’s popular diet plans.

Our program will show you how.

Staying on your diet can be a challenge for anyone, but for a busy working mom the challenges can be especially tough. A busy lifestyle can make it impossible to get to the gym for a daily workout, prepare your meals ahead of time, or even to remember to pack your lunch for work each day. Being in a rush can make it difficult to stick to your diet when it’s so easy to grab something at the drivethrough. Here’s a collection of hints and tips from other busy women that will help you stay on your diet despite all the temptations.

Don’t try to ‘save time’ by eating on the run, or snacking at your desk while you work. No matter how rushed you are, take the time to eat like a civilized human being, to quote my mother. Set the table, put your food on a plate and have a meal. You’ll eat less and feel fuller – and not feel the urge to snack because you ‘haven’t eaten anything all day’.

Cook just what will be eaten. Ignore all those homemaker articles that suggest that you ‘cook for tomorrow’ to save time. Cook one portion per person at each meal. That way you’ll avoid the temptation to finish off the leftover – and teach your family healthy eating habits.

Get up early enough to eat breakfast at home. The morning rush to get ready may make it tempting to grab something on the way to work, or skip breakfast entirely. Don’t do it. You’ll end up eating up all that saved time – and a lot more calories – with midmorning trips to the snack machine, or fight off the blahs all morning long. Stock up on easy breakfast foods. A piece of fruit, a container of yogurt and a slice of toast are a healthy, balanced start for your day.

Most diets suggest that you drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. If the thought of drinking a half gallon of water makes you queasy, there are ways to make it more appealing. Stock up on flavored bottled water in the fridge at work and keep one icy cold on your desk. At home, float mint sprigs or lemon slices in a crystal pitcher. There’s no added calories, but oh what a difference in presentation and flavor!

Trying to lose baby weight can be frustrating. You want to take it off as quickly as possible – but your body may not be cooperative. Keep in mind that your body is designed to nourish a child for up to a year after you give birth. Putting it on a starvation diet will kick it into survival gear, making it even harder to lose the extra weight. Instead of fighting your body’s natural tendency to store up nutrition for the baby, eat healthy portions and increase your activity level. And if you’re breastfeeding, remember that your body needs up to 1000 more calories a day than usual. Don’t skimp – you’ll just convince your body that it’s starving.

Employ the buddy system for moral support. Making a pact with a friend to exercise together makes it easier to stick to your resolution. Instead of meeting with friends for lunch, challenge friends to a tennis game, or take a brisk walk in the park together.

Remember that a healthy, active lifestyle and a nutritious diet are the true keys to losing weight permanently. By choosing a diet that makes sense for your lifestyle, you’ll make it easier on yourself to lose weight, and keep it off for good.
